These colors don’t run.

Brian Teichman served as a Marine for five years in Iraq and Afghanistan where he learned many effective skills to save himself and others in the face of danger. Teichman likely never thought he would need to use these skills while dropping off his two-year-old daughter at a babysitter’s house in Queens, New York Wednesday. At 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Teichman spotted a man forcing woman over a guardrail across the street and into a deserted, wooded area. The former marine jumped to action.

“I am an ex-Marine, so I’m not scared of conflict. I looked down and I saw him straddling her and he had his hand over her mouth and he was trying to rip her shirt off,” he recalled of the incident to the New York Post.

“My thought was ‘scream first, if he runs you don’t need to worry if he has a gun or a knife. In the deepest scream I could, I said, ‘Hey get the f—k off of her !’ He looked up at me and then ran down the hill, toward the west bound shoulder of the Parkway.”

Within minutes police arrived at the scene following a call from the nearby babysitter, but the attacker was already gone. Teichman told the New York Daily News that following the attack he tried to comfort the weeping woman who spoke very little English.

“God bless him,” said Lisa Chianese, a witness to the event who told the New York Daily News that the woman had been waiting for carpool into the city. “He saved her.”

The stoic Teichman painted himself as no hero, only saying to the Daily News “It blows my mind that someone has the audacity to do that at 9 o’clock in the morning.”

“In hindsight I feel like I didn’t do my job until they catch him,” Teichman told the Post.

The suspect, who appeared to be in his 50’s, clean cut, 5’11″ and 200 pounds wearing a tan baseball cap was being sought by police. At the time of the attack the vet was on his way to take a physics exam at Nassau Community College.
